Leaders are reminding Arizonans that the final day to file states and federal taxes is May 17th.
The American Rescue Plan website gives an overview of what the American people need to know about direct payment:
- For households who have already filed their income tax return for 2020, the IRS will use that information to determine eligibility and size of payments.
- For households that haven’t yet filed for 2020, the IRS will review records from 2019 to determine eligibility and size of payment. That includes those who used the “non-filer portal” for previous rounds of payments.
- For tax returns with direct deposit or bank account information, the IRS will be able to send money electronically. For those households for which Treasury cannot determine a bank account, paper checks or debit cards will be sent.
In a press release, Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick urged families to file their taxes before May 17th to ensure they receive the accurate amount in new advance monthly Child Tax Credit payments.
Kirkpatrick commented, “Advance monthly payments of the Child Tax Credit will help set America’s children up for success and put more money in the pockets of hardworking parents sooner, to pay for childcare or put gas in the car so they can go to work and help fuel our economy while building better lives for their families. The best way to make sure you and your family get the correct amount as soon as possible is to file a 2020 tax return, before May 17th – even if you don’t normally file.”
Rep. David Schweikert posted on Twitter, “Reminder: The deadline to file for both state and federal income taxes is May 17, 2021. Be sure to do this as soon as possible here: https://azdor.gov/e-services/free-electronic-filing-individuals
