PHOENIX (AP) — Doug Ducey is set to lay out his priorities for the coming year when he presents his sixth State of the State address on the opening day of the annual legislative session.

The Republican addresses a joint session of the state House and Senate Monday afternoon.

Ducey is expected to tout his administration’s accomplishments in the past year and present proposals for lawmakers to consider in the coming session. Education, public health and safety and infrastructure proposals are likely to make up a good part of his presentation.

The governor said last week that he’ll also continue to simplify or cut income taxes as he’s done each year since taking office in 2015. That won’t sit well with Democrats and many educators who believe the state’s schools and universities remain underfunded despite injections of cash in recent years.

But Republicans who hold the majority in both chambers like the idea. One GOP senator has already proposed a big tax cut that would benefit businesses, homeowners and parents.
