Senator Kyrsten Sinema, Rep. Tom O’Halleran, and Rep. Debbie Lesko are some of the many Arizona leaders who took time to recognize National Police Week and National Peace Officers Memorial Day.
In 1962, President John Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, is National Police Week. According to The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, “National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.”
“Arizona’s law enforcement bravely risk their lives every day to keep our families and communities safe. Police Week represents an opportunity for all of us to show our thanks, honor the service of law enforcement, and remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty,” Sinema said in a press release.
In April, Sinema presented fallen Deputy U.S. Marshal Chase White with the Congressional Badge of Bravery Award. White was shot in the line of duty on November 29, 2018 while responding to a warrant for a dangerous fugitive. Sinema presented the Congressional Badge of Bravery Award to Deputy Marshal White’s family during a virtual event.
Tom O’Halleran posted on Twitter to honor the week. “This #NationalPoliceWeek, I spoke in honor of those who have fallen in the line of duty. I’m grateful for the many officers dedicated to serving #AZ01 communities and I’m committed to working to ensure that those who have sworn to protect & serve are held to the highest standards.”

Debbie Lesko also took time to recognize the week, stating, “This #NationalPoliceWeek, let us thank the officers at @PhoenixPolice for their tireless efforts to protect and serve our communities and remember the sacrifices law enforcement officers make to keep us safe!”

Today Gov. Doug Ducey ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset tomorrow, Saturday, May 15, in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day.
Ducey commented, “Arizona’s peace officers are on the frontlines every day serving our communities, protecting others, and putting their lives on the line — and some don’t return home after carrying out their duties. Arizona is grateful to the heroic men and women who wear the badge, and we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. This Peace Officers Memorial Day, we take a moment to pause and remember the officers who died in the line of duty and thank those who bravely protect our communities every day.”
