The Arizona Department of Health Services reported 198 confirmed COVID-19 infections this Labor Day.
No new deaths were reported.
Instead, the department reports two “negative” deaths, meaning there was a change in the number of deaths that was previously reported.
So far, 5,219 people have died of the disease caused by the coronavirus, and there have been nearly 206,000 confirmed cases. Still, the state, once a national hot spot for infections, continues to see a downward trend in infections and hospitalizations.
The number of reported infections is thought to be far higher because many people have not been tested, and studies suggest people can be infected with the virus without feeling sick.
For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
