In a tweet on Friday, President Donald Trump gave a glowing endorsement to Arizona 4th District U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar ahead of the August 4 Republican Primary.
“Congressman @DrPaulGosar is a tremendous supporter of our #MAGA agenda! He is Strong on the Wall, Law Enforcement and the Second Amendment, and he always puts America First! Paul has my Complete and Total Endorsement. #AZ04,” Trump tweeted.

Trump’s tweet also included a link to Gosar’s website where supporters could make donations to the candidate.
Gosar, a dentist by trade, was first elected to represent Arizona’s 4th District in 2010 after defeating Democratic incumbent Ann Kirkpatrick. On Friday, he retweeted Trump’s endorsement; on Sunday, he responded with a tweet of his own.
“The President’s @realDonaldTrump endorsement of me on July 3rd comes because we have both been fighting for the same ideals. We love this country. We want to build it up. Not tear it down. #KAG2020 God has truly blessed us.”

Anne Marie Ward, a former U.S. Senate staffer, is challenging Gosar in the Aug. 4 Arizona Republican primary election. The winner will go on to face the Democratic primary winner, either Delina DiSanto or Stuart Starky, in the Nov. 3 general election.
In 2018, Gosar won re-election with 68.2 percent of the vote against Democratic opponent David Brill. Trump’s endorsement follows a storied collection of previous endorsements throughout his time in Congress from conservative leaders and groups nationwide, including Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz, the NRA-ILA and Club for Growth.
